What can I expect from a behavioral consultation, and how long does it typically last?
The initial consultation allows me to gather background information about your dog, discuss the methods I use, your dog’s particular issues, and your hopes and expectations of solving them.
This consultation lasts for about one hour.
Based on what I observe, I will devise a tailored training/rehabilitation strategy for your dog.
During private training sessions, I will use a variety of techniques to ‘undo’ any unwanted behavior that your dog may have already learnt, and lay the foundation for new, desired behavior.
When I am taking your dog for a 1:1 training session, you will be updated after each session and given some techniques to establish new communication structures with your dog.
In other training sessions, you will be leading your dog yourself, while I provide distractions and triggers, talking you through how to teach your dog desired behaviors.
For improvement of relationship, I will show you how to teach your dog a set of rules, that you can easily practice at home, with the goal of maintaining best behavior.
If your dog is still a puppy, I will show you how to avoid issues developing in the first place.
My training is based on how dogs naturally learn - through dog perspective.
What training methods do you use?
For behavioural problems, and to empower owners to better understand their dogs and improve their relationships, we apply and teach canine behavioural biology.
This is based on how dogs naturally learn - through dog perspective.
To condition cues and train specific commands, we use positive* & negative** reward and punishment*** combined with movement and body language.
* "positive" meaning "adding" something
** "negative" meaning "subtracting" something
*** e.g. negative punishment - withholding an expected treat
*** e.g. positive punishment - adding something unwanted for the dog - hand on dog's bottom - to encourage a "sit"
Are pack-walking adventures suitable for all dogs?
Our pack-walking adventures are designed for all fit and healthy dogs, with a focus on safety, socialization and basic obedience.
A 1:1 walk/training session with trainer : dog is the entry requirement for pack-walking.
This is to establish a bond, basic pack rules and assess the overall mannerism and obedience of the dog.
Further 1:1 training may be required to safely integrate the dog to the pack.
